A close friend to Ebebi who pleaded anonymity told TNN that the mishap occurred 5pm in Ekeremor town as a result of crowd of youths that rushed to his speedboat (passport 19) to collect money from him.
The source further stated that as at the time the boat capsized, the victims of the mishap were already in the cabinet of the boat, and as a result couldn't survive the accident. "You know that Ebebi is a generous man, so after the ward congress, hundreds of youths followed him to the jetty in Ekeremor town.
While he was chatting with the youths, five persons entered the cabin of the boat.
"The five others that survived sat at the open space at the back of the boat. When the pressure and demand for money went beyond control, Ebebi jumped into the boat to escape the youths.
"Before anybody could do anything about the situation, some of the desperate youths jumped into the boat, just to make sure they collect money from him. That was how the boat capsized.
"Unfortunately the five persons in the cabin didn't survive the accident. Shortly after Ebebi was rescued, he was rushed to the hospital nearby where he was examined and discharged.
He is strong and I just spoke with him.
