We hope this
letter meets you and does not come to you as a shock or surprise despite the
fact that we did not send it directly to you.
Misconceptions in the public domain, as a result of
recent events now portray our student body to be active in partisan
politics. This cannot be said to be one
of the core aims wherein, the body was created and has made it necessary and of
public interest for us to make our position clear and unambiguous as it relates
to the VOICE OF SOCRITE.
As progressive students' leaders of SOCRISS Worldwide who desires progress, development and welfare of our members, we deem it necessary to write you this letter.
We the coalition of SOCRISS Worldwide Executives, without the backing of any godfather, wishes to express our dismay towards the way some sycophantic cabal using our name to make consensus wave.
This open letter is brief and debrief you on the just concluded illegal rally tagged "SOCRISS ONE MILLION MAN MATCH FOR SENATOR PRINCE BASSEY EDET OTU".
The illegal self-proclaimed students' body
who held a rally tagged "SOCRISS ONE MILLION MATCH FOR SENATOR PRINCE
BASSEY EDET OTU" on the 16th of October, 2014 from the campaign
secretariat of Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu stopping over at Ernest Etim Press
Centre and terminated their frolic at the State Secretariat of the People's
Democratic Party.
We were not consulted neither did we hold any congress
to take decision, but our name was dragged into the present political terrains
as it relates to your candidature to the exalted office of Senator of the
Federal Republic of Nigeria as an adopted candidate by the Southern Cross River
State Students (SOCRISS) Worldwide.
This act was
done out of selfish interest of some overzealous persons whose effort are not channelled
towards the development and success of SOCRISS Worldwide, but are interested in
selling our pride , dignity and reputation to aspirant for money, thus making
the students body look like political hunters who hunt aspirant to beg for
pittance.
The issue of a consensus candidate was manipulated in such a manner and way that it became a Child's play, likened to the dictatorial era of military regime.
On no account/record was there an executive meeting of
the SOCRISS Worldwide Executives, neither was there a general Congress where it was agreed that
we adopt our Admirable Senator Price Bassey Edet Otu as a consensus candidate
to seek a second term in office in the forthcoming general election in 2015.
A situation where elected and inaugurated officers of SOCRISS Worldwide are not actively involved in the affairs concerning her students, this portrays a great danger that will definitely lead this association to a calamitous end.
We are against the mischievous and sycophantic acts of
illegality perpetrated by some persons who have hijacked the name of SOCRISS
Worldwide for the politics of their stomach in the just concluded rally.
We are not against the leadership of our distinguished Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu nor his aspiration to seek a second term in office.
SOCRISS as Student Worldwide body is neutral in this situation. We are students' unionist and not a political cabal. 98% of SOCRITE are against the communiqué/unanimous support, thus are not in support of the sycophantic cabal rally which took place on the 16th or October, 2014.
All SOCRITE are eligible and well accredited to exercise
franchise at the different polling unit on the day of general election.
SOCRISS Worldwide doesn't restrict any individual
member to identify with any aspirant or any political party, but he/she should
do it with his/her own name and not in the name of SOCRISS Worldwide. At this juncture, we wish to notify the general public and all party Faithfull’s that the so called rally tagged "SOCRISS ONE MILLION MAN MATCHFOR SENATOR PRINCE BASSEY EDET OTU" was illegal and in attendance were miscreant and political touts and not SOCRITE.
SOCRITE are willing and ready to work with whoever
emerges as Senator-elect of Southern CRS who
inevitably will always be the distinguished grand Patron of SOCRISS Worldwide
just as its ongoing with our amiable Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu.
SOCRISS Worldwide says NO to illegality in SOCRISS and also advises all stakeholders to emancipate themselves from mental slavery and stomach politics.
