PANICK, AS GOV. BEN AYADE MOVES TO DOWNGRADE IMT UGEP TO A TECHNICAL SCHOOL

There are grave concerns being expressed by well-meaning people from Ugep/Yakurr and Cross River State over Gov. Ben Ayade’s move to downgrade the Institute of Technology and Management, ITM in Ugep to a technical college.

As we file in this story, the Rector of the Institute, Mr. William Pedley and a few other foreign partners from the Highbury College, Portsmouth, United Kingdom, drafted to the school are packed and ready to leave in a few days, since the agreement setting up institution seems faltered.

Contacted staffers of the institution also confirmed to us that that have not been paid their August salaries, which is alien to the system.

It is worrisome that Gov. Ben Ayade will take such a stance in a very short time in office and feelers are saying that he might be receiving advice from very wrong quarters, as the fallout of the move might no do anybody any good at the long run.

The questions Cross Riverians are asking are;

Why does Gov. Ben Ayade want to downgrade the Polytechnic Institute, IMT on its fledging state as set up by the just left power Sen. Liyel Imoke?

Did Sen. Imoke make a mistake to set up the institution after all the elaborate plans put in place?

What are the factors that are motivating Gov. Ben Ayade’s move to downgrade considering the fact that they are already enough technical schools in the state?

Who are his advisers on this matter?

As we run around town to get answers to the questions, we call on all Ugep people, and their Yakurr comrades to appeal on the matter to have Gov. Ayade have  change of plans.

AS PYTHON CONSUMPTION INCREASES IN CROSS RIVER STATE, BE WARNED!

It is no longer secret that the consumption of snakes and other larger ones identified as as python in this region is on the rise. The rate people eat python, a big snake in some part of Cross river state is alarming.
In Ibeae Oil Palm Estate Camp, now Wilmar international, Biase Plantation, people prefer eating the python to other meats.

People are sometimes shocked when friends tell them that they eat python meat, due to its high mercury content without which it would not be a bad idea to make the legless animal a house staple.

It is amazing how consumers claim the python meat is soft in taste and rubbery in texture which pairs it with the taste of big fish.
However, research raises eyebrows on the content of mercury Bioaccumulation in everglades pythons. They observed that python contain mercury, and the concentration is higher than Mine Waste and that they have never found anything that has this high level of mercury that’s still alive. The mercury level cited in the study is shocking compared to anything else that humans should eat.
That the level of mercury among 24 samples was 5.5ppm more than younger and longer, even older snakes

So we use this medium to caution the consumption of Python snakes in the region.
For further argument, research on the subject is a

(GORY PICTURE!) MOB SNUFFS LIFE FROM A PHONE SNATCHTER IN CALABAR

A 26 year old man met his waterloo on Sunday morning at 4:30 am, when he came out for his purported regular business of snatching phones from early risers.

Passersby alleged that victims of the thief include business men, Morning Prayer goers, club patronisers and those exercising on the streets at wee hours of the morning.

They verified that his regular stand was at Marian by Goldie-Atu Round About for what he all along considered a lucrative business.

According to our sources, on the fateful day, a man went out jogging along the Goldie axis and met the alleged thief, who ordered him to stop and surrender his handset and he complied.  As the jogger would have it, as soon as he surrendered the phone to the bandit, within a short walk after that, he met a group of people going for morning prayers, reported the matter and they all decided to get to the point of the round-about. Fortunately, the phone snatcher was sighted and apprehended. The crowd of residents from Atu, Uwanse and Goldie that trooped out from the neighborhood grabbed him and collected the phone from him after further alarm was raised.

On beating the boy, he started shouting “Odeshi” meaning nothing will happen. He also claimed that nobody can kill him with any weapon, which instigated the crowd to adopt more cruel measures of burning him with tyres, and to their amazement, he could not be burnt.

It was confirmed that the boy uses talisman in his operations as he boasted, “Kill me if you can, after-all my Odeshi is tested and trusted!”

After some time at about 6:25 am the jubilant resident of Atu, Uwanse, Goldie and Target were all rejoicing because the boy was identified as an alleged notorious criminal who takes charge of stealing people’s cars, radio’s, Batteries and even car tyres when they saw him dead on the ground.

This story happened precisely on the 23rd of August, 2015.

CROSSRIVERWATCH NAILS IT AGAIN!

Young people have once again been challenged to brace up with a Cross River State without oil, identify its disadvantages and recognize its prospects. On its fourth anniversary on Thursday, the 27th of August 2015, the event, held at Transcorp Hotels, in the heart of Calalar, Cross River State and titled The Reality Of A Non-Oil Economy: Prospects & Challenges, draw a large crowd of eager youth audience.
Some of the state’s best youth mentors were at hand to inspire with their words of wisdom laced with experience in their various fields of endeavours.

Amongst the dignitries were Barr. Kanu Agabi, SAN and two-times Attorney General of Nigeria , His Excellency, the Former Governor Chief Clement Ebri, Prof Kevin Ettah, the radical and passionate former Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, amongst others.

Barr. Kanu Agabi, SAN did not fail to spur the young people as he reminded them that the Youths are the oil of the state. He further tasked them not to give up but keep trying until they have dominion in their quest.

He cautioned the current trend of political jobbing by youths who are used to manipulate the system just to get appointments that do not last or satisfy, and also urged them to stop criticizing leaders or government only in the negative way. He went on to fault the youths in their misconceptions of politics. “It is good to be in the senate but let your ways be right. Whatever you do be good at it. And be bold to tell anyone your profession”

He said that “Our search for oil should not stop us from skill development. It is good to dream BIG, but we have to start small. God cannot give us big things when we haven't started with smaller ones. Whatever you are doing, do your very best, God is merciful and created us with compassion, so He can't let us suffer”.

He went further said; “The future of our state is in the hands of the youths. This generation is the one with the last opportunity to save our heritage, so they shouldn't rest, they should sacrifice and work hard.  Where is our politics without talent?”

He prayed for the violent Youths to change and be useful, admonishing that “with or without oil we should be able to use our hands. Our Universities should be innovative”.

He concluded by dedicating his speech to the founders of the state, the youths and those who use their talents wisely.

Prof Kelvin Etah, who said he was working for 18 years in the system before becoming Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar tasked young people to be resilient and dogged in fighting for the good of the state. He said; “I tried to Cross Rivernise the Unical because then, the university was not indigenised. I ensured that 40 percent of admission quota was reserved for Cross Riverians under my tenure. I also ensured that with unskilled labour was reserved 60 percent in order to create opportunities for the indigenes. The idea of the CrossRiverWatch for its youth ideal is what I stand for. I contested four times and failed times three times before becoming VC. Like Pres. Buhari, we should never give up.”

Chief Clement Ebri, the Former Governor of Cross River State, said that it is the wise who see opportunity in opposition. He said that nothing has stopped us but ourselves. It is not about old men being in the government but how can you approve that a young man who can't express his or herself should replace him”. He advised that Curriculum of learning should be created that will enable the students to find their talents.

“We should not wait for appointments but let us sacrifice; the youths should be ready to work. The government must bring power back to the local governments.

Politics should not undo us. Youths should not be waiting for political appointments while wasting away”. He concluded.

Meanwhile, the CEO of CrossRiverWatch, a foremost online media in Cross River State news reportage, Agba Jalingo, used the opportunity to task youths to rise up to the challenge of recognizing their worth. He urged them to take a cue from him who has shunned political inducement, but prefers to tackle government outside its fold by way of informing the people despite challenges.

Various speakers asked young Cross Riverians to identify the agricultural endowment of the state and stop being docile in the midst of opportunities.

OKRA AND ITS NUMEROUS HEALTH BENEFITS

If you find yourself in Nigeria and some African countries where our soups are thick broths cooked up with various vegetables, meat, fish and tasty spices, you would have encountered Okra as one of the basic vegetables by now.

Some people do not like okra because of its slimy nature and probably because they do not know its full benefits. Here's an article that could change the way you look at okra next time you see it.

The superior fiber found in okra helps to stabilize the blood sugar by curbing the rate at which sugar is absorbed from the intestinal tract.

Okra's mucilage binds cholesterol and bile acid carrying toxins dumped into it by the filtering liver.

Okra helps lubricate the large intestines due to its bulk laxative qualities.

The okra fiber absorbs water and ensures bulk in stools.

This helps prevent and improve constipation.

Unlike harsh wheat bran, which can irritate or injure the intestinal tract, okra's mucilage soothes, and okra facilitates elimination more comfortably by its slippery characteristic. Okra binds excess cholesterol and toxins (in bile acids). These, if not evacuated, will cause numerous health problems.

Okra also assures easy passage out of waste from the body.

Okra is completely non-toxic, non-habit forming, has no adverse side effects, is full of nutrients, and is economically within reach of most individuals unlike over-the-counter drugs.

Okra fiber is excellent for feeding the good bacteria (probiotics). This contributes to the health of the intestinal tract.

Okra is a supreme vegetable for those feeling weak, exhausted, and suffering from depression.

Okra is used for healing ulcers and to keep joints limber. It helps to neutralize acids, being very alkaline, and provides a temporary protective coating for the digestive tract.

Okra treats lung inflammation, sore throat, and irritable bowel syndrome.

Okra has been used successfully in experimental blood plasma replacements.

Okra is good for summer heat treatment.

Okra is good for constipation.

Okra is good in normalizing the blood sugar and cholesterol level.

Okra is good for asthma.

Okra's vitamin C is an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, which curtail the development of asthma symptoms.

Okra is good for atherosclerosis.

Okra is believed to protect some forms of cancer expansion, especially colorectal cancer.

Eating okra helps to support the structure of capillaries.

Some information shows that eating okra lowers the risk of cataracts.

Okra is good for preventing diabetes.

So, what are you waiting for? Go make yourself a hot pot of okra soup.
