VICE CHANCELLOR BERATES OBASANJO FOR NIGERIA’S INABILITY TO GET ARMS FROM AMERICA


Former Vice Chancellor of The University of Calabar and First Vice Chancellor of the Cross River State University of Technology, Prof Kelvin Ogon Etta want Nigerians to be objective in the choice of their next president in the forth coming general elections.

Etta, who rooted for President Goodluck Jonathan said “ex President Buhari ruled by fiat and expressed doubts if he will fit in a democratic set up. “I do not believe in political parties but by the quality of a candidates involved”. He said.

The octogenarian scored Jonathan high in the area of Agriculture, Electricity, Education, Airport renovation, roads, railways, etc “irrespective of security challenges in the country”.

In the area of insurgency, the ex-vice chancellor said Obasanjo used “Brut force” and undemocratic approach to deal with the people of Odi in Bayelsa and Zakibiam in Benue States. “treated the good people of Odi and Zakibiam like goats and sheep adding that this is the reason why Americans no longer want to sell sophisticated arms to us”. According to the ex-vice chancellor , as a seating president, Obasanjo once referred to a question put to him as “jaga-jaga” adding that President Jonathan has never reacted that way even in the face of provocation”.

Locally, the octogenarian expressed worry that the Cross River State debt profile was about 80 billion after the exit of Gov. Donald Duke in 2007. Etta expressed worry that “right now, it has risen to about N403 billion.

On the area of education in Cross River, the former Vice Chancellor said the “state owned University of Technology is highly expressive. “As a result of that, most parents do not have the means to pay their children’s fees”.

Etta urged Nigerians to always go for credible candidates instead of tying themselves to political affiliations, religious or ethnic biases.
