The Cross River State Police Commissioner, Mr. Henry Fadairo wants people of the state to maintain the peace “for which you are known for during the fourth coming elections”.

kinwale made these remarks recently in Calabar at the occasion of a peace accord signing ceremony by contending political parties in the state ahead of the 2015 general elections.
Representatives of political parties in attendance at the occasion who signed the peace accord include the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA), Independent Democrats, and Labour Party.
The Action Congress, (AC), one of the leading contenders in the state in the forth coming elections was conspicuously absent at the occasion.
Others who also signed the peace accord include His Grace, Most Rev Dr Joseph Ekuwem, the Catholic Arch Bishop of Calabar Diocese while ACP Akinwale signed on behalf of the Police Commissioner Fadairo for the police. In attendance were also election observers from the European Union (EU).
In a keynote address on “The effects of electoral terrorism on Democratic Consolidation in Ningeria, His Grace, Most Rev Dr Ekuwem traced causes of electoral violence to include poverty, ineffectiveness of the security outfits, poor funding for the security operatives and proliferation of small arms.
Ntufam Ekpo Okon, Director General of the PDP Campaign Organisation in Cross River who spoke on behalf of the other political parties present thanked organizers of the event most of whom he referred to as youths. He thanked particularly, the youths “for realizing that we must not continue in violence”.
In an interview with our correspondent, Ntufam Ekpo Okon debunked allegations that the PDP is purchasing PVCs with a view to rigging in the elections. “What we have done here is a commitment for peace” adding that those peddling rumors against the PDP are those who have continued to shun peace accords”.
Earlier, John Offiong, Organiser of the event said women and youths are always at the receiving end in times of crisis stressing that “we cannot allow violence to continue”.
