Promises Pres. Jonathan Made To Cross Riverians During His Campaign

Again the Federal Government shifted the completion date of the much talked about East west road as President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan  commissioned the N6.5 billion ring road in Calabar.
Severally the federal government had promised to complete the east-west road yet to no avail.

While addressing a mammoth crowd of party supporters at the U.J Esuene stadium as part of his presidential campaign rally, Jonathan promised to complete the East west road when voted into office come February 14, 2015 noting that the Uyo-Calabar axis of the road will come naturally.
He said the East-West road was on course and certainly the project will come to completion this year if returned to office come 2015.

He also reassured his supporters of his promise to construct a railway line that would access Lagos to Obudu Cattle Ranch.
Jonathan said his mandate was to take Nigerians forward as the country continued to lead in international standards.

He charged Nigerians not to allow themselves to be ruled by lawless leaders, saying, “when people talk about change, what kind of change are they talking about, why do you want to change us to lawless country, we need change that can take us forward, not backward”.
He commended Cross River for making a tremendous progress in developing the state, noting that “the state has made a significant progress in development and is still leading in international standards”.

While commissioning the 6.8 kilometre Margerate Ekpo International Airport By-pass Road named after him by the Cross River government. who lauded the state for providing an enabling environment for tourism and entertainment, he said, “I am glad to be in Cross River State, a state that is entertaining Nigerians. That was why I selected your own, Chief Edem Duke to come and handle tourism at the centre because we saw what he was doing in Cross River.
“This is a great story which symbolizes the vision of PDP, to create environment that will stimulate and help people in commerce and industry and social integration For the government and people of Cross River to notice that they need a bypass from the airport to divert traffic and decongest the city is indeed a visionary leadership”.

He also expressed his administration’s resolve to work with the state government to ensure that more amenities are attracted to Cross River.
He added, “I want to thank you very sincerely for immortalizing me with the naming of this all important road after me. I pray that the day I will leave office, I will leave enough foot print that people will use in remembering me’’.

Earlier the State Governor Senator Liyel Imoke who promised that the state would deliver over a million votes to Jonathan administration, said, “you have come back to where we believe is your strongest stronghold. You are a Cross Riverian. Today we have the privilege of you commissioning one of our very many projects by the grace of God in the state.
“It is an airport bypass road designed to bring out traffic out of the city. It is constructed through swamp and started 2011 and we are glad to complete this 6.8 kilometres road with an interchange bridge. This road will amongst others led to the creation of a new development area for house which we are complementing with the needed infrastructure

“This road has been named Goodluck Ebelle Jonathan Bypass out of everything that you represent to us in Nigeria, but more particularly what you represent to Cross River State”.
The Minister for Tourism, Chief Edem Duke warned Nigerians not to vote for an opposition party that is still looking for its 1961 first School leaving certificate adding that PDP would never take Nigerians back to analogue day, “the opposition is still looking for 1961 certificate” APC cannot give us the kind of change we need, we want continuity”.

Meanwhile, Nigerians often allow leaders to make promises they are not sincere to fulfill when elected. It is in the interest of Nigerians to take note of such promises and continue to hold the leaders accountable until they are met. This is the right time to do this.
