Old students of University of Calabar
wants Federal Government to appoint an alumni of the institution as next Vice
Chancellor of the university.
"For forty years of its existence the University has never produced a Malabite as Vice Chancellor. This is unacceptable to us. As the lifespan of the present Vice Chancellor expires, alumni should be appointed as VC."
National president of the Alumni
Association, Barr.Ugorji Nwabuezi made the call on Friday in Calabar, when
executive members of the Association paid courtesy visit on the chairman of
Cross River State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ, Pastor Ndoma
Akpet, who is also an alumni of the university.
Nwabueze said the essence of the visit to NUJ chairman is to find a synergy between the executive of the alumni and the media so as to mobilize ex-students of Unical across the globe for development of their Alma-Mata.
In response, the Cross River State Council Chairman of the NUJ, Pastor Ndoma Akpet urged the alumni of the University, who are qualified to contest the elections for the position of Vice Chancellor, to show interest in the race for Vice Chancellorship.
The NUJ boss advocated for
deliberate policy, that indigenes of the state be given a faire share in terms
of admissions and recruitment of staff into the university.
Pastor Akpet urged the ex-students
to heed to the "homecoming” call so as to help in providing facilities for
their alma-mater.Chairman of the NUJ was honoured with an honorary member of Alumni of Unical by the association’s executive.
