Nigerian Drug law enforcement Agency
(NDLEA), Cross River State Command says it has arrested 185 suspects with drug
exhibit.
State Commander of NDLEA in the
state, Mrs. Edeh Anthonia disclosed this Friday in Calabar during the
international day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking with the theme:
“let’s develop our lives, our communities, our identities without drugs”.
Mrs Edeh Anthonia said the suspects
were arrested with drug exhibits totaling 1.4 tonnes of cannabis sativa,
6.4035kg of cocaine and 18 grammes of heroin.
She also disclosed that the drugs
seized have a street value of over N1.1 million.
The NDLEA boss said that the suspects
include 175 males and 10 females.
She added that the command’s
anti-narcotic efforts also led to the discovery of 4.741 acres of cannabis
sativa farmlands at Abijan, Etung local government area of the state.
According to her, these farms which
have a street value of over N70 million have been destroyed by the command.
“Also we counseled seventy drug
dependent persons while nine referrals were fully rehabilitated and
reintegrated back to their families, she stressed.“Drugs are a threat to the society and illicit drug trafficking undermines governance, institutions and societal cohesion. On this international day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking we therefore re-affirm our commitment to this shared responsibility within our communities and among the family and Nations”
