Arit Nyong,Chief Suprintendent of Prisons, Medicals, Aunty to the deceased told our correspondent in Calabar on Sunday that unless killers of their son are brought to book, the officers involved in the matter would know no peace.
"I am shocked that the policemen who killed our son can still have the temerity to ask the deceased family to hands off from or bail the corpse claiming the deceased was a robber. In a critical matter of this nature claiming that our dear son was a thief". She queried,
"We want the police to give us our son alive as he was when he was picked. What right has the killer officers to murder our son when his guilt had not yet been proof. If they feel he committed the offence, they ought to have allowed justice to prevail“ The deceased family member insisted.
"I feel very devastated that a little boy I brought up since their mother died and left Stanley and 4 other siblings in my care is being branded a thief. No! That is not true because Late Stanley has no criminal records or tendency all through when he lived with me". The prisons' officer claimed.
Arit alleged that she developed high blood pressure when she heard that the police officer who allegedly murdered her son was the same person who went with a doctor to the mortuary of General Hospital Calabar to conduct a post mortem exercise to ascertain what killed
"Can accused become a judge in his own case? This is ridiculous! The aggrieved family member said.
"We called on the Inspector General (IG) and well meaning Nigerians home and abroad to help us seek justice“she said.
The deceased’s aunty alleged that Stanley was murdered by the police officers because the deceased was sharing the same girlfriend, one "Chichi girl" with one of the police officers said to have ganged up with his colleagues to kill Stanley".
According to her, the deceased had a quarrel with Chichi girl over a N35 thousand naira which Stanley got from his boss to procure diesel oil for the company’s generator but chichi girl swindled the money from Stanley.
She stated that Chichi became very uncomfortable with pressure exerted by
The family member said that if
"I know too well that there used to be a stationary police van with officers on duty at the Flower Mills Junction on daily basis, why did Chichi not call them to her rescue instead she preferred to call her boyfriend, Uche (Stanley’s rival) a police officer, who was very far away to the scene of the fight to come and murder my boy? Uche should tell me what went wrong with the live of my nephew" .Arit queried.
Lawyers to deceased and Head of Chambers Kanu Agabi and Associate SAN/CON Busuyi Olusegun averred that the chambers would stop at nothing until justice is done onto the matter.
However, Chief Executive Officer of Civil Right and Accountability Initiative CRAANI, Mr Kingsley Okoma said, his organisation is also demanding justice to reign over the brutality of Mr. Stanley Etim who was allegedly tortured by the Police on Feb. 5, in Calabar.
It would be recalled that Stanley Etim was allegedly killed by some police officer from D5 unit of the Criminal Investigation Department SCID when he was whisked away by three police officers headed by one Uche and Edim, who allegedly tortured Stanley to dead.
When Daily Times called the Police Public Relations Officer PPRP, DSP Hogan Bassey for confirmation, he said that the police was aware of the incidence and every thing within its reach will be done to unravel whatever mystery that is associated with the matter and stressing that the police would go at any length to ensure that the right thing is done.
