CAPTORS OF EX-DEPUTY SPEAKER, NDDC BOSS DEMAND N30 MILLION

 
Kidnappers of Mr Dominic Aqua Edem, former Deputy Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly (CRHA) and Labour Party Candidate for the Calabar South/Akpabuyo/Bakassi Federal Constituency, have demanded a N30 million ransome for his release.

Meanwhile, members of the public have risen in one voice to condemn the
alarming rate of criminal activities now in Cross River State.

It would be recalled that a former Councilor, simply identified as Ete Ete in Ikot Edem Udo ward nine, Akpabuyo Council and an associate of Edem was also on Monday night allegedly kidnapped and at the time of this report without any clues of whereabouts.

On Mr Edem who was kidnapped on Sunday night, sources close to his family said the kidnapers sent a message across demanding a ransom of N30million
otherwise he will not be released.

Edem who is also the immediate past Cross River State Commissioner in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) was kidnapped in Calabar at about 9.pm on Sunday at a gunpoint.

His kidnap is coming barely three weeks after an alleged assassination attempt was made on the life of the People’s Democratic Party candidate of the South Senatorial District, Mr. Geshom Bassey.

Similarly, the State branch Chairman of the Independent Petroleum Marketers of Nigeria (IPMAN) was reportedly kidnapped about three weeks ago and about N7 million ransome was paid to his abductors before he as freed.

Edem was allegedly kidnapped by unknown gunmen who trailed him to his house with aToyota Camry taxi car at Essien Street by Umo Orok after he reportedly held political consultations with some interest groups.

This blog had earlier reported that the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Hogan Bassey confirmed the kidnap incident.
