HOT NIGERIAN ARTISTES TO WATCH OUT FOR IN 2015

Artistes always plan to make it big within the course of every year, but only a few of them get to meet and sustain the expectations of their fans. JOAN OMIONAWELE features some of the artistes who were dully acclaimed in 2014 and who will endeavour to sustain the tempo this year.

PATORANKING
When Patoranking declared that he wanted to be the next Bob Marley, the public thought he was joking, but the young artiste worked night to night last year and walked his way to the top.

Carting away the award of the next rated 2015 star at the Headies, Patoranking revealed that he was once a bricklayer and a rat killer seller.

“If I tell una say I don sell rat killer, una go believe? If I tell una say I don do bricklayer before, una go believe? Never let anyone tell you that you cannot achieve your dreams.

Thus, the singer who featured Tiwa Savage in his ‘Girlie O’ has received many more awards this year, and received an endorsement deal from an undisclosed brand. It is certain that Patoranking will have a great year in 2015.

 ADUNNI ADE
Adduni Ade is a fast rising actress who recently relocated to Nigeria to pursue her acting passion. Adunni, who had a stint with modeling, has been on her toes on some movie sets and told Saturday Tribune: “People often think I moved back to Nigeria to make it here. But the thing is I can make it anywhere I choose to, with all my hard work. No criticism would have been made if I relocated to Paris and I believe if I’m known worldwide, then the claiming would begin. I am human just like everyone else. I had personal issues that contributed to my relocating back to Nigeria.”

CYNTHIA MORGAN

Bold and daring, it is difficult not to notice fast rising singer, Cynthia Morgan. Signed unto Jude Okoye’s record label, (Psquare’s manager and brother) Northside Music Inc, Morgan, last year, released a single entitled ‘I’m taken’ which received massive air-play and earned her a performance at the Headies.

In a recent interview, the artiste was asked how she aimed to be different among other female artistes; she said “for me, the kind of music I do is something distinct. Personally, I am an artiste with distinction right from when I started. I have never been compared to anybody in Africa or in Nigeria. It’s one thing to be a female, and it’s another thing hustling and doing your music like a female. The sky is wide enough for anybody to fly.

Gathering shows gradually and pushing herself into the scene, Morgan, during the Headies did not have a great time as her boobs almost spilled out of her tight attire. Nevertheless, the artiste, in another interview, said: ‘it’s all about hard-work, knowing what you want, knowing what you want, knowing your kind of sound, knowing that you have to be different and not following new trends. You have to be a pacesetter, not following people, it’s not about being put in a box because I am female, it’s just about being good at what you do as an artiste and being able to compete with the male folks in the industry. It’s not a gender thing.”

YEMI ALADE
2014 was a massive year for the “Yoruba igbo” girl as she calls herself, Yemi Eberechi Alade, known for her ‘Johnny’ song, is an artiste to keep an eye on in 2015, though she lost out of the Headies as Patoranking was awarded the next rated star.

Yemi Alade is expected to get massive attention in 2015 if she works harder on her game, as her songs are being played in almost every radio station, club house, road side bar and even wedding receptions. Whatever she does in the next few days will determine her breakthrough in 2015.

KOREDE BELLO, AFRO DIJA and REEKADO BANKS
The trio from the Mavins family are gradually warming their way into fan’s hearts, as Reekado Banks won the Headies Rookie of the year award, while Korede Bello and Afrodija have released “Cold outside and Aww” this year. The crew alongside their producer, Don Jazzy, are surely set to take their fans through a cruise in 2015.

RUNTOWN
Douglas Jack Agu aka Runtown is an up and coming singer and songwriter with a diverse music style of hip-hop, RnB, Reggae and rap. Signed under Eric Manny Ent, his hit track, entitled Gallardo featuring Davido shot him into limelight. Since then, Runtown has been up and about releasing singles. Though there was a controversy about Davido’s song “Aye” as it was believed that Runtown wrote and sold the lyrics to Davido, but in an interview with Saturday Tribune, Runtown denied such allegations, saying it was nobody’s business if he sold “Aye” to Davido.
