C`River ASUU Accuses LASU Vice Chancellor of Administrative Recklessness, High Handedness


The Calabar zone of the academic union of the Universities is calling on the Lagos State government to constitute a Visitation Panel to ‘restore order’ in Lagos State university LASU
so as to curtail the alleged ‘growing impunity and recklessness’ allegedly being perpetrated by LASU management, which brought breakdown of Law and order in the institution before issue get out of hand.


A statement issued in Calabar on Tuesday and jointly signed by the zonal co-coordinator of the union, Dr. Nsing Ogar; the zonal secretary, Dr. Charles Obot and branch chairmen in the zone, the union also accused Prof. Obafunwa of adopting ‘repressive tactics’ to silence his perceived enemies, which is capable of deteriorating to the level that meaningful academic work would no longer be guaranteed.”
Even as the Calabar Zone Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) also accused the Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Professor John Obafunwa of fuelling the crisis plaguing the university.

“The zone condemns the in entirety the highhandedness of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John Oladapo and the LASU administration which if not checked has the tendency of being replicated in public universities in the country with its attendant terrible consequences.”

The Calabar Zone of the union expressed dismay for a singular act where the LASU Vice Chancellor assaulted the University culture by being administratively reckless and showing no regards for established norms by carrying out primitive witch-hunting, vendetta and other forms of infractions.’

The ASUU officials went further to blamed Professor Obafunwa of arbitrarily increasing fees paid by students of the university from N25, 000 to N350, 000 for no justifiable reason and was forced to reverse the fee hike ‘after popular struggle by ASUU, the students and the people of Lagos State.’

ASUU also accused. The LASU management of prosecuting its members in the University for their role in the fee hike saga, noting ‘the vice chancellor opted for repressive tactics against the union and its members for championing the cause of the people.’
