South-South APC condemns attack on members in Edo

The National Vice Chairman (South-South), of the All Progressive Congress, Mr. Hilliard Etta has condemned what he called a politically motivated attack on members of the party in Edo State.

A Press Statement issued by him Calabar on Wednesday, alleged that the attack was motivated by members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party in the state.

The statement, which was personally signed by Etta, read in part; “We are particularly irked that last Monday's attack on some APC lawmakers clearly revealed PDP's resolve to reduce Edo to a theatre of war and extend same to other parts of the country ahead of the 2015 general elections with APC officials as major targets.”

According to Etta, “his latest attack, which by our estimation was propelled by a recent 'vow' by the PDP leadership to take power in Edo further, lends credence to the sniper allegations earlier made by ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo against the PDP led government.”

He also condemned the action of the Police in Edo State, alleging that the Police “is now being coerced as the militant wing of the PDP.”

“Unfortunately, the conduct of the police in the latest violence has also confirmed our suspicion that the Nigeria Police is now being coerced as the militant wing of PDP,” the statement said.

He said, "We are particularly irked that last Monday's attack on some APC lawmakers clearly revealed PDP's resolve to reduce Edo to a theatre of war and extend same to other parts of the country ahead of the 2015 general elections with APC officials as major targets.”

"This latest attack, which by our estimation was propelled by a recent 'vow' by the PDP leadership to take power in Edo further lends credence to the sniper allegations earlier made by ex president Olusegun Obasanjo against the PDP led government,” he added.

"As a party and a highly respected democratic institution at that, we condemn in very strong terms, this act of brigandage in the State of Edo for which over seven houses, several properties belonging to APC members were destroyed by the brigands," Etta insisted.

Etta said information at the party's disposal indicated that opposition party was using violence to slow down the pace of developments initiated by the Governor Adams Oshiomhole-led administration.

He said, "Information at our disposal indicate that the gale of violence in Edo since the re election of His Excellency, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as governor up until last Monday's attacks are part of the PDP's many plots to thwart the development process of the APC government in Edo state.”

"This is just as it reveals clearly the attempt by some bad losers in the Edo project to take the well meaning mass of Edo people back to the inglorious days of underdevelopment and squalor the PDP had hitherto plunged the state
into."

Etta urged the police high command to redeploy the Edo State Police Commissioner in the interest of peace, adding that all other law enforcement agencies should investigate thoroughly the phenomenal violence in that state with a view to bringing the perpetrators to justice.
