10 REASONS PRESIDENT GEJ WILL BE REELECTED (Part B)

(6) President GEJ is a lucky man; hate or love him. He, like all the previous Presidents "may” have a desire to impact good legacies by developing Nigeria, but the same gluttonous elite always surrounding them make it impossible for them to do the right thing.

For instance, Electorally, Pres. GEJ “seemed” to have good intentions in the beginning, but the decision to succeed was figuratively rested on the shoulders of Prof. Jega, who he appointed to head the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. The Prof. Jega led INEC has not been able to translate the dream. Some Nigerians have mixed feelings about the Commission under him; while some believe it is too early to judge, others think they see some faint improvement or nothing at all in the processes of most elections conducted so far. And because Prof. Jega was venerated to be an impeccable activist before his appointment, many scholars and critics are mute over their expectations. This could afford INEC the impetus to unleash another poor conduct to favour the Administration.

  (7) Pres. GEJ plays the victim-card a lot. He acts as if forces within his government are resisting him beyond his control and Nigerians buy it with mellow grunts. This can be perceived with his ceaseless complain of enemies within, as if he did not chose those who work with him.

Meanwhile many times he is clueless and to worsen matters, he is surrounded by the most selfish advisers of all times. This is why he has made lots of mistakes in decision making.

The President also uses this strategy to prevent being appraised in many sectors as would have been expected of a government that was given so much at the start. But all these turn out to work in his favour, since, Nigerians don't pay attention to details and they have also learnt the game of self interest; if an injustice favours them, it is ok.

(8)The eighth reason GEJ will be reelected is that Nigerians are so disgruntled with the system they do not vote. They have erroneously abandoned their existence to fate. Religion is their consolation and their leaders utilise this factor to invade. Many Nigerians of our generation have never cast a vote their entire life and they have no intention to change that attitude. This group is the bitterest debaters of issues and debasers of leaders on the internet platforms. The hot air they blow do nothing to bring the desired change and the leaders they think they are sending the messages to hardly hear or see what they think, since they do not even care.

Thus every political season, the politicians use their foot soldiers to manufacture votes which count because there is no other account to counter theirs.

(9)Many Nigerians do not have a Permanent Voter Card, PVC, without which no one is eligible to vote. Some people made genuine efforts to acquire one when the opportunity arose but were officially disenfranchised by INEC'S lackadaisical approach to the exercise. Recently during the much media promoted exercise, Nigerians teemed out to register, the population simply outnumbered INEC'S facilities and personal and amid complaints, INEC turned a deaf ear. Whether this is deliberate in order to shortchange Nigerians is what nobody cares to probe. Not to worry, Nigerians will protest after the elections, but it would be too late.

(10)There is no formidable contender to wrest power from Pres. GEJ. When the chips are down you shall see that the rest of the other contenders are either there to register their interest or just making noise to sell us an opposition that doesn't exist, since they will cross carpet when the need arise. And just to mention, all along, while the opposition was busy commenting on issues as they come up, GEJ has been campaigning under cover. And as I write this less than six months to the general election, they are yet to get their act right and present a formidable candidate to Nigerians.

All these reasons will see the return of President GEJ. Unfortunately, some legal horns have tried to sell us some dummy of his being constitutionally disqualified from contesting, that in itself is the joke of the year, because it would have been true if the President has contested an election for the position two times before this one.

Therefore, the onus is on all Nigerians to begin to ‘participatingly’ embrace democracy; otherwise, they will remain mere puns in the net of their leaders.
