I am Igbo.
If I return to the place of my birth today, I shall pass
as a poor guy: it's a society wired by making money.
So my life is a mockery of our value; which states that
you must make money.
It doesn't matter whose ox is gored, it doesn't matter
who lost what he had, it doesn't matter who died, JUST MAKE MONEY at any cost,
make it........so that you can build a fine house in the village, join friends
in weekend drinking spree, have voice when others boast, spray money in events,
establish your alias, and buy a car to wash every morning...what else, have a
title somewhere if you are above average....So, the Igboland is now a den of
lion, elsewhere in the world everyone suspects his every move, HE HAS LITTLE OR
NO HONOUR WHEN IT COMES TO MONEY, because the Igbo man is charged like cable in
pursuit of wealth, because his whole being is just defined in locating the
colour of currency.
My problem is how can we continue to live like this? How
can we continue with a life of meaningless pursuits and everyday vices just to
make it...WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE IGBO MAN, WHY CANT HE CHANGE? WHAT IS WRONG
WITH US, REALLY WHAT IS WRONG WITH US?
You don't have to swim with the crowd - just take courage and BE YOURSELF!
