WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE IGBO MAN, WHY CAN'T HE CHANGE?

By Okeke Izuchukwu Job

I am Igbo.

If I return to the place of my birth today, I shall pass as a poor guy: it's a society wired by making money.

So my life is a mockery of our value; which states that you must make money.

I have hated this of my race, and even now I am getting horrified at the direction we are headed. Make money, by all means have money. Swindle somebody, kidnap somebody, tell lies, falsify receipts, borrow up peoples' money and be on the run, relocate to another city with people's goods got on credit and go into thing air, do yahoo yahoo, 419, sell adulterated products, even fake drugs, sell fake products that endanger other peoples lives, lie on oath just to collect the money, be quack in something, just do anything to make money.

It doesn't matter whose ox is gored, it doesn't matter who lost what he had, it doesn't matter who died, JUST MAKE MONEY at any cost, make it........so that you can build a fine house in the village, join friends in weekend drinking spree, have voice when others boast, spray money in events, establish your alias, and buy a car to wash every morning...what else, have a title somewhere if you are above average....So, the Igboland is now a den of lion, elsewhere in the world everyone suspects his every move, HE HAS LITTLE OR NO HONOUR WHEN IT COMES TO MONEY, because the Igbo man is charged like cable in pursuit of wealth, because his whole being is just defined in locating the colour of currency.

It makes every Igbo man dangerous to everybody. In his remote village, there are even more robbers than the town he lives in. Even he lives with the mentality that you cannot trust anyone with anything....I am not frustrated because I am poor; I don't care what anybody thinks of my achievement.

My problem is how can we continue to live like this? How can we continue with a life of meaningless pursuits and everyday vices just to make it...WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE IGBO MAN, WHY CANT HE CHANGE? WHAT IS WRONG WITH US, REALLY WHAT IS WRONG WITH US?
