The People's Democratic Party (PDP) has won the Cross River Governorship Election conducted on Saturday in the 18 Local Government Areas.
Prof. Comfort Ekpo, INEC returning Officer for the State while announcing the result on Sunday in Calabar said, the PDP candidate scored 342,016 to defeat other four candidates.
According to her, Mr Odey Ochicha of the All Progressive Congress (APC) came a distant second with 53,983 while the Labour Party (LP) candidate Mr Fidelis Ugbo polled 36,918.
Mrs Henrieta Henry of New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) polled 982 votes and Mr Philip Ogbor of Independent Democrat (ID) came last with 514 votes.
``Ekpo, who is the Vice Chancellor, University of Uyo added that total votes cast during the polls were 443,529; valid votes 434,413 while rejected voted stood at 9116.She said that results of some polling units in Biase, Akamkpa and Etung Local Government areas were cancelled due to some irregularities including ballot paper snatching and use of manual accreditation.
She stated that 1,096, 781 were registered voters in the state and the number of those accredited for the election was 466,318.
In his reaction the agent of the PDP, Mr Godwin Eta said that the result was a reflection of the people’s votes.
The agent of APC, Mr Celstine Awoh said that election was marred by irregularities.
``We will climb upstairs in pursuit of Justice, ‘’ Awoh said.
