WHY NIGERIA’S 2015 ELECTION WILL NOT BE DIFFERENT FROM PAST ONES

Many Nigerians are disenchanted with the political system and do not regard it with a pinch of salt, hence not interested in its activities.

Nigerians do not still understand that true politics start from the political parties with the delegate electing their choice of candidates which they present to the voting public hence we end up with candidates we won’t be interested in supporting. Many of the contestants are not the choice of the people and they will not be voted for during the elections. Yet those people will hire the few Nigerians that will turn out at the polling booths to elect them and be elected into offices.

INEC has been showing dwindling capacity to organize huge responsibilities, lately.
but Nigerians do not appear to bother.
for instance, even though the commission had conducted the Personal Voter Card, PVC Registration exercise across the country, many Nigerians are yet to register. The exercise was shoddily done with many Nigerians raising alarm at the lack of personal and manpower for the job with INEC turning a deaf ear. As usual Nigerians have crawled back into their skins, but will wail during voting period when they will face their disenfranchisement.

It is one month to polls, and there are authentic reports that INEC is yet to distribute 15.3 Million PVCs. The PVCs distribution across the 36 states has been done earlier in three phases. However, PVCs distribution in Ekiti and Osun states were done earlier in 2014. Many people are yet to brandish PVCs.

With precisely less than 37 days to the presidential election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday disclosed that 38.7million Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) have been distributed nationwide out of the 54.3million PVCs with the commission, which indicates that 15.3million Nigerians are yet to receive their PVCs.

INEC with a table which showed the breakdown of distributed PVCs revealed that only 71.35 per cent of the PVCs have been distributed so far.

The voter register contains 73million eligible voters in the country. The population of Nigeria is ….

PDP has learnt to conduct free elections but the elections are not fair. They have come of age to cheat in an orderly manner, which makes it difficult to ditact. The charade called elections since 1999 have been worsening and climaxed into the interparty primaries which has further torn the umbrella will still happen at the 2015 general elections. PDP will rig in their strong holds, while the other political parties will do so in their domains. Nigerians have come to regard corruption in any form as a legitimate way of survival.

The confusion of using hungry and fun starved Nigerians who attend campaign rallies to find immediate gratifications for their bellies to judge who supports which party is laughable. In the past, such crowds always turn out for rallies but do not turn out to vote. The polling stations remain no go areas for Nigerians due to apathy.

Violence is still part of the system and generally this scares people away from voting. Many people do not leave the comfort of their homes to see what a poling booth looks like. They have rather found ways to participate actively on the media with all its safety and comfort. All this will not amount to the needed votes to make the desired changes. It is hot air.
