Sierra Leone LOCKED DOWN FOR 3DAYS TO CONTAIN EBOLA OUTBREAK

The Government of President Koroma has declared a 3day lockdown in Sierre Leone to enable the country tackle the spread of Ebola. The programme begins on Saturday 20, to end on Monday, 22 September 2014 for a review assessment of the lockdown. For the 3 days, people are to be restrained within their environs.
Meanwhile, 30,000 volunteers have been enlisted to go door to door, since health workers are in short supply, to check on suspected cases in order to isolate them.
600 ambulances are being used but more are required  
18 burial teams in Freetown also fall below capacity for the task.
Corpses are being picked too.

Infuriatingly, 35 people got infected from washing in the water of a Muslim cleric corpse last week because he was revered as an astute scholar. Even children were affected, according to a BBC source. Umar, the same Correspondence said, fear has reached its limit when speaking on a phone interview from Freetown and asked about his own safety.

Over 170 burials have been done by his team according to another volunteer. 2oo centres only based in the East are inadequate to cope.
 900 calls have been put through the emergency numbers but only a few dozens have been picked up in response to the citizen’s distress, leading to public discontentment, according to Independent Sources.
Groceries and other day-to-day needs are skyrocketing due to roadblocks and lack of flights in and out of the country.

In another related report an Ebola Burial Team was attacked amid the 3-Day Lockdown
ASA police official says health workers have come under attack while trying to bury the bodies of five Ebola victims east of the capital, Freetown.
Sgt. Edward Momoh Brima Lahai said there was a confrontation Saturday between a group of youths and the burial team in the Waterloo district. A witness told state television the burial team initially had to abandon the five bodies in the street and flee. Lahai said the burial was successfully completed after police reinforcements arrived.
Sierra Leone is in the middle of an unprecedented three-day lockdown intended to stop the spread of Ebola. The World Health Organization says the deadly virus has killed more than 560 people in Sierra Leone, the second most affected country after Liberia, and more than 2,600 across West Africa.

  1. The entire world has been caught napping on this evolving desaster. Since March this year, the drama has been unfolding. It is only now that significant support is being organised.
