Preparations are in top gear to mark the 10th Obudu Mountain Race.
The International Mountain Race officially begins on the 7th of November 2014 with Senator Liyel Imoke as a contestant.
According to the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the race, the Governor has accepted to put on his racing canvass to participate in the VIP competition at the Obudu Ranch Resort in Obanliku Local Government Area.
Senator Imoke told the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) that he will participate in the VIP race, which holds a day before the main race at the Obudu Ranch Resort.
The commissioner for Youth and Sport Development, Patrick Ugbe, who is the media chief for the event, is elated with the initiative.
The idea of having an African Mountain Running Championship in addition to the main race was introduced in 2009 and it was bought by the then president of WMRA, Danny Hughes now of blessed memory.
This year is the celebration of the sixth anniversary of that bold move.
The LOC has released the itinerary for this year’s race.
The Children, Youth, Media and VIP races will hold at the Ranch on Friday November 7, while the main race will hold the next day. Prizes and awards shall be presented immediately at the end of each event to make it one of the most ICT complaint, in the history of the competition.
All the 18 Local Governments of the Sate that wish to participate in the youth and children events have been told to signify interest but warned that they shall be responsible for the transportation and other logistics of their wards who ought to be children of school age.
